Microsoft 365 keeps changing.
Is anyone actually managing those changes?
For many businesses, Microsoft 365 is something that was set up once and has quietly become part of everyday working life. Email works, Teams works, Files are accessible.
So it is easy to assume there is very little left to manage.
But Microsoft 365 is not standing still. New capabilities are being introduced, security features are changing, Copilot is becoming increasingly integrated into the working environment, and even familiar applications and services are evolving. This summer alone, Microsoft has been rolling out additional functionality across its Business plans, including enhanced email capacity, additional protection against malicious links and new Copilot Chat capabilities.
The question for a business therefore shouldn’t simply be:
“Do we have Microsoft 365?”
It should be:
“Are we making proper use of what we already have — and is somebody keeping track of what is changing?”
Because unmanaged change can mean:
- useful features never being enabled
- security improvements being overlooked
- users discovering new functionality before the business has considered how it should be used
- unnecessary licences continuing unnoticed
- settings gradually drifting away from what the organisation actually needs
Cloud services have removed much of the traditional maintenance associated with business IT. They haven’t removed the need for management. In many ways, they have made ongoing management more important.
